A spokesperson for the LAPD Northeast Station has confirmed the patrol unit has a new Captain.   Capt. Jennifer Thomas officially took over the post as of June 16.

Thomas is said to have been with the LAPD for nearly two decades.  She has worked in a myriad of roles throughout her tenure including working with the Asian Crime division and also with gang units.

She has replaced Capt. Joseph Hiltner.  Hiltner retired earlier this month.  His retirement reportedly comes approximately nine months after he was removed from a post within the LAPD Foothill Division.

Department records show he was accused of failing to take action against officers who are alleged to have used excessive force when arresting a local suspect.

Officers who are stationed at the LAPD Northeast Station are charged with patrolling the communities of Solano Canyon, Silver Lake, Mount Washington, Los Feliz, Highland Park. Glassel Park. Garvanza, Franklin Hills, Elysian Valley, Elysian Park, Echo Park, East Hollywood, Eagle Rock, Cypress Park and Atwater Village.

The patrol area is approximately 29 square miles in size.  Its population is estimated to be in excess of 250,000.

The LAPD Northeast Station is under the jurisdiction of the Central Bureau.  This station is not equipped with long term jail facilities.  Persons who are arrested in this area will be taken to the LAPD Metro Center Jail in order to be housed.
