Manhattan Beach Police Department officials are currently searching for an individual suspected of fleeing after being pulled over. According to Patch, the officers were pulling the suspect over for a traffic violation after undercover MBPD officers reported the vehicle for suspicious activity. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled and police lost track of its whereabouts. The suspect was driving a 2012 white Chevy Cruise rental vehicle from Enterprise. The driver and passengers are suspected of being involved in a string of local residential robberies.
At one point in the chase, the suspects threw out what police officers believe to be a pry tool on the 1200 block of Magnolia Avenue. The suspects drove off on the 405 Freeway southbound, however, the MBPD, the California Highway Patrol nor the Hawthorne police were able to track down the suspects.
Investigators are currently looking to see if Enterprise has any surveillance footage of the individuals who rented the vehicle along with any leads as to how they could locate the suspects. Manhattan Beach has seen its fair share of burglary incidents within the past few years. As previously reported, the department started the "Lock It or Lose It" campaign, which was created to encourage community members to take precaution when it comes to locking their cars and doors to their homes.
Easy Reader News reported that about 92 percent of car burglaries that take place in Manhattan Beach could have been avoided if the owners took more precaution. About 54 percent of the thefts involved unlocked doors and 38 percent involved valuables that weren't properly hidden.
Home or vehicle burglary in Manhattan Beach can carry some heavy consequences for the offender. If an individual is arrested for either crime in the community, it is best they contact a Manhattan Beach bail bondsman to help them determine their next steps in the process.
