850 BRYANT - "THE HALL"
The SFPD Southern Police Station is inside The Hall Of Justice on 850 Bryant Avenue, where it serves as the San Francisco Police Department's operational headquarters. It was relocated here in 1961, leaving behind an elaborate but outmoded station that was built in 1926.
Officers have nicknamed their station "850 Bryant" and "The Hall". Their building also houses the main San Francisco County Jail, as well as the San Francisco Sheriff's Department and San Francisco California’s Highway Patrol.
The SFPD Police Motorcycle Division is based out of the Southern Station as well.
Part of the SFPD Metro Divsion, the Southern Station’s jurisdiction covers the Ferry Building and extends south from Market Street to 16th Street and then east to the Bay. The officers who work here also patrol South of Market, Embarcadero and the China Basin. Their district was once an industrial area, but residential loft development and a thriving nightlife scene have gradually changed the landscape.
The area is also the new home of the San Francisco Giants at PacBell Parks.
The Southern Station has played a role in many film and TV police dramas, most notably Ironside, starring Raymond Burr, and it was often used as a literary backdrop by famed detective writer Dashiell Hammett.
JAIL INFORMATION
The San Francisco Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St. houses most of the county jail facilities for the City of San Francisco.
Two of these jails are located in the Hall of Justice on Bryant Street. It is a newer jail complex, having been opened in 1994.
All San Francisco Jails are operated by the County Sheriff's Department Custody Division.
Individuals arrested by the SFPD Southern Station will undergo a short information gathering intake process and be booked into the Bryant Street Jail.
After that time, they can be bailed out. However, you can start the bail bond process immediately by calling us at 415-831-BAIL (1-415-831-2245).
