Woman taken to Los Colinas Detention Center

A woman was recently arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Las Colinas women's jail in Santee after her husband died from a gunshot wound to his chest. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the man and woman were reportedly fighting for a gun inside a San Diego apartment on March 23 when he was shot.

Police did not disclose the cause of the domestic altercation between the two, but authorities did say an argument escalated into a physical fight and they both wrestled for control of the handgun. Fox 5 San Diego reported the man was found on the bedroom floor of the apartment. He was taken …

San Diego Police Department investigates robberies

The San Diego Police Department opened an investigation after two armed robberies occurred in Rancho Bernardo and Clairemont​ on March 22, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The first robbery was reported at CVS at 12:01 a.m. on Bernardo Center Drive. The article said the robber was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. He walked into the store and demanded the cashier to hand over money. The suspect reportedly took the money as well as cigarettes before he fled the scene.

Supervisors Consider $22M To Help LASD Could Restore Patrols

The LA County Board of Supervisors is considering allocating $22 million to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. If the measure passes, Sheriff Lee Baca will use those funds to restore patrols to certain unincorporated areas.

Places within the county that do not have their own police departments receive law enforcement services from the LASD.  At the current time those residents reportedly have a 17 percent longer wait for in terms of having a deputy respond to the 9-1-1 calls.  Although that 17 percent increase translates into about 60 seconds, some point out that extra minute could mean the difference between …

A drinking and driving incident involving a former San Diego Police Department officer recently turned into a criminal investigation at the request of the prosecutors for the case. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the prosecutors asked Judge Peter Deddeh to order the department to turn over internal-affairs files.

Det. Jeffrey Blackford, an 11-year veteran of the department, crashed his city-owned vehicle into a roadside utility box on December 7. Instead of immediately reporting the accident, Blackford allegedly called two of his friends from the department, Sgt. Fremont Police Say Gun Buyback Was Successful

The Fremont Police Department has said that two recent gun buyback events were a resounding success.   Nearly 340 weapons were collected, according to a department spokesperson.  Among the items turned in were rifles, hand guns and shotguns.  Officers distributed more than $50,000 to those who chose to hand over weapons.

Pittsburg Police Department officials also had positive things to say about their event.  Officers there distributed more than $56,000 to those who turned in old or unwanted guns.  They collected more than 290 weapons in total, they said.

Man held in lieu of $50,000 bail bond

Authorities from the Costa Mesa Police Department, with an Orange County Sheriff's Department helicopter, arrested a man who allegedly robbed a bank customer at an ATM March 16. The Orange County Register reported 18-year-old Brian Gonzalez was arrested after a family member called the police department to alert them he was planning to flee the area.

The victim, a 29-year-old Huntington Beach resident, was reportedly retrieving money from the ATM when he was approached by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a short-barreled shotgun. San Joaquin Sheriff’s Department Arrest Suspected Killer

A representative from the San Joaquin Sheriff's Department said that deputies have arrested and detained a French Camp man who is believed to have murdered his wife.

The incident took place last Friday night.  That is when authorities say 37-year old Juan Valdez shot and killed his wife.  The couple did have children, they said, although it is currently unclear whether any of them witnessed the crime.  A department dispatcher said a call reportedly came in late Friday afternoon regarding a potential domestic disturbance.  That is when a second call came in, indicating shots may have been fired.

Suspects arrested and taken to Vista Detention Facility

Five individuals were arrested by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department on March 15 for drug-related charges. A month-long investigation is what led officials to a Fallbrook​ home where the suspects allegedly kept drugs and stolen property, NBC 7 San Diego reported. The drug charges include possession of heroin.

Law enforcement officials served a search warrant for the home on Juliette Place, which led to the arrest of the individuals inside. Officials said the five suspects arrested for the drug-related charges include Jose Barreto, Erika Favela, Joshua O'Brien, Michael Ochoa and Billy Painter, according to NBC 7.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department makes St. Patrick’s Day DUI arrests

Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies were on patrol during St. Patrick's Day weekend to catch any drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A total of 45 people were arrested when authorities determined the drivers may be driving at intoxication levels exceeding the legal limit, the Orange County Register reported. The sheriff's department's DUI task force increased enforcement throughout the community, which led to the arrests on county roads and freeways across Orange County.

The number of arrests during the holiday weekend was down compared to last year. Sixty-four people were arrested during St. Patrick's Day weekend in 2012, the Register reported.

San Diego Police Department investigates shooting

Authorities from the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in Valencia Park March 14. ABC affiliate KGTV reported a man in his 20s was killed near Jacinto Drive and Trinidad Way in the San Diego neighborhood.

Witnesses reportedly saw a medium-sized sport-utility vehicle drive away from the area after the shooting occurred, but no suspects have been identified.
