SFPD Stations Declared LGBT Safe Zones

The San Francisco Police Department Chief of Police declared that all SFPD stations are officially LGBT safe zones.  The department has a total of 10 stations located in areas throughout the city.   Signage will be posted in each window to ensure that members of the LGBT community know they can expect to receive courteous, respectful and compassionate interactions when they come in to report crime.

A community spokesperson said they approached the SFPD earlier this year with concerns after a transgender person was attacked after leaving a bar.  The department's declaration that all stations are to be considered safe zones …

Vehicle Sniper Booked Into San Joaquin County Jail

Representatives from the San Joaquin County Jail have confirmed they are detaining a man who is accused of shooting at vehicles earlier this week.

Stockton Police said they received numerous calls that an unknown man was opening fire at cars and trucks as they drove through city streets.  The motive for the crime was not known.  No one was injured during the shooting spree.   Several days later members of the highway patrol pulled over a black sedan for failing to dim his high beams for oncoming traffic.  The patrolman did a visual sweep of the interior of the vehicle and …

The San Diego Police Department and Nextdoor.com began a partnership on April 17 that aims to keep community residents safe and up to date with activity in their neighborhood. According to ABC affiliate in San Diego KGTV, residents need to register to gain access to the information, which is posted by law enforcement officials each day. If they want to, residents can post or view any commentary posted by other individuals, which will also be monitored by the police officers running the account.

DUI suspect is found sleeping in drive-thru lane

Police were called to a fast food restaurant the morning of April 13 in Escondido, California after a man reportedly fell asleep in his truck in the drive-thru lane of a Burger King on West Mission Avenue, blocking restaurant traffic, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

When the police arrived, the man, identified as as 22-year-old Carlos Santiago was fast asleep in the drivers seat with the engine running and all of the doors locked. According to authorities, the officers were able to get one of the doors open, and in doing so, awoke Santiago, according to Fox San Diego.

On April 15, dual bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in Copley Square, leaving three dead and around 150 wounded. As CNN reported, the investigation is ongoing, but according to federal law enforcement agents, at least one of the bombs was made inside a metal pressure cooker and carried in a backpack. Authorities believe that both explosive devices were small enough to fit into boxes or bags.

The $5K Bandit arrested, held in Orange County Jail

Since 2011, FBI agents have been tracking a man who they believe is responsible for a string of bank robberies in Los Alamitos, California where he stole $5,000 each time. Dubbed "The $5K Bandit," he held-up the same bank in Los Alamitos on three separate occasions, each time at knife-point.

For reasons that have Captain Bruce McAlpine of the Los Alamitos Police Department baffled, the suspect returned to the same U.S. Bank for a fourth time on April 15, wearing similar clothes and wielding what appeared to be the same knife used in prior instances, the Sun reported.

Within the next few years, the San Diego Police Department is expected to go through a few changes. According to Fox affiliate KSWB, 16 percent of the members on the force are currently eligible to retire, and more than half will reach retirement within the next four years. The city of San Diego will have to increase its recruitment efforts for officers over the next few years to keep a strong police force. According to Fox News in San Diego, 16 percent of police officers with the San Diego Police Department are currently eligible to retire and more than half will reach retirement eligibility within four years. A Southern California attorney found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was arrested on April 9 for allegedly smuggling drugs into a Los Angeles County jail.

Stephen Beecher, 61, was charged with five felony counts including conspiracy, bringing drugs into jail, transportation of a controlled substance and bringing a firearm into a jail, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was allegedly attempting to bring heroin into the jail while visiting his client, 20-year-old Jesus Antonio Duenas, who is in custody on an attempted murder case.

LA gang members held on bail bond after string of robberies

Los Angeles residents Dominique Lewis, 24, and Thurman Sutton, 28, were arrested the morning of April 7 for their suspected involvement with a string of burglaries spanning three weeks. Around 4:20 a.m. on, a concerned citizen called the Ventura County Sheriff's Department when a car with its headlights off pulled into the Latino Market on Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Thousand Oaks, California, KABC TV in Los Angeles reported.
