On January 26, three individuals broke into an elementary school and stole more than 50 iPads according to The Beach Reporter. The suspected robbers - two males and one female- entered two fifth-grade classrooms by breaking the windows. They then proceeded to use a bolt cutter in order to break through the locked covers on the charging carts housing the devices. The scene was discovered Sunday morning when school employees discovered the mess left by the robbery.
The stolen iPads were worth approximately $25,000 and were donated to the school by the Parent Teacher Association, according to the Reporter. Authorities said the robbers did not take all of the iPads in the school, only the ones in the two classrooms. Luckily, the stolen iPads are covered by insurance and the school district hopes they can be replaced for a reasonable cost.
Officials from the Manhattan Beach Police Department have since released video from the incident. Two males and a female were recorded in the surveillance, the article stated. The two men were wearing baseball hats while a woman wearing a hoodie carried a bag with a shoulder strap.
Schools put on lockdown after reported robbery
Other Manhattan Beach schools have been the center of media attention when a burglary suspect was believed to be loose in the area. In January, a robbery occurred at a home located in a residential neighborhood near the schools, according to ABC, and police ordered a lockdown of the schools while they searched for the suspect. The source said a resident had returned to their home and discovered two robbers inside. When the suspects realized they had been discovered, they fled from the scene. The local schools had been locked down as a precautionary measure because of the possibility the suspects remained in the area.
