If you follow celebrity gossip, you’ve probably heard more celebrity arrest stories than you can shake a stick at.
Although some Hollywood stars, starlets and pro-athletes seem to have a frequent visitor punch card when it comes to the county jail system, others have managed to not only clean up their act, but have gone onto bigger and better things.
Chris Brown goes to jail
It may be too soon to know whether hip-hop artist Chris Brown has truly seen the error of his ways, but a recent interview with LA County’s most famous inmate seems to indicate he’s looking to clean up his act.
Brown was taken into custody in early March due to a probation violation relating to his getting kicked out of rehab the previous week. He was initially picked up by LASD deputies and was booked into the Twin Towers Jail on a No-Bail Hold.
The judge ruled the 24 year-old would need to stay put until he resolves a Washington D.C. assault case, which won’t be heard until April 23.
Brown has since described his time in lock up as being the worst experience of his life and has promised to get his life in order the second he’s released. Time will tell.
Robert Downey Jr. is on top of the world
In the late 80s and early 90s Robert Downey Jr. seemed to epitomize the term self-destructive.
If he wasn’t getting arrested on drug charges he was getting into trouble for his drinking habits. His arrest hijinks quickly turned him into the laughingstock of Hollywood. He went so far as to tell one judge that taking drugs was like having a loaded gun in his mouth and the biggest problem was he liked the taste of the metal.
The once promising actor went from being a sought after name to scrubbing pots and pans at the LA County Jail. He served a six month sentence in 1997 and spent another year behind bars just three years later due to a probation violation.
It wasn’t until 2005, the same year he met his current wife that he started to turn his life around. Today, Downey Jr. is best known for playing the role of Tony Stark in the Ironman trilogy. He’s off the drugs and booze and has become the first actor ever to sign a $100 million movie contract.
Nicole Richie’s less than simple life
Richie stormed into the media forefront after she and her then BFF Paris Hilton starred in the reality TV show The Simple Life.
Not long after, things quickly spun out of control.
She was arrested in 2005 for driving under the influence after she admitted to police shat she’d taken painkillers and smoked marijuana.
Her famous father, Lionel Richie, said he knew his daughter had a drug problem but felt helpless to stop it.
She too, seemed to turn her life around after meeting Good Charlotte band member Joel Madden. Ever since then she’s slowed her roll, calmed her destructive behavior and has become a doting mother to their child.
Michael Vick- the comeback that no one could have predicted
One day NFL star Michael Vick is getting arrested for running an illegal dogfighting ring and the next thing you know, he’s out of prison and being signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Few could have predicted the post jail-rags to NFL riches comeback would happen for the former felon, but it did. Since that time he’s managed to excel both on and off the field.
Ray Lewis charged with murder, goes onto win Super Bowl
NFL Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis was arrested in February 2000 after an investigation pegged him as a person of interest in an Atlanta murder.
Just a few months later, he managed to avoid a jail sentence after he took a plea deal that involved him pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge. He also had to agree to testify against his co-defendants.
Once his legal troubles were wrapped up the Baltimore Ravens welcomed him back with open arms, and in 2012, he and his teammates led the Ravens to a victory in Super Bowl XLVII.
