A bounty hunter drama series that was set to star Geena Davis has been shot down by TNT.
Network executives approved the shooting of a pilot earlier this year. Writers for the series said it was based on the real-life story of Mackenzie Green.
Green has been described as being one of the most successful bounty hunters in the United States. She has previously been quoted as saying she relies on people skills and gut feelings in order to figure out where bail jumpers are hiding.
A TNT news release describes her as being eccentric and having unusual tactics. That combo, they said, enables Green to be very good at what she does. Network executives have not said how they came to learn about her business. They have also not indicated who initiated the pitch of the pilot.
The show was reportedly set to co-star Scott Bakula. Other listed actors included Enrico Colantoni, Gloria Reuben and Marsha Mason. Mason was cast to play Davis' no-nonsense mother.
The network has not said why they chose to pass on the series. It is unclear whether writers and producers will begin to pitch the series elsewhere. Had the show been approved, it would have been the second current running series that has a bondsman / bounty hunter cast as the main character. The ABC show Once Upon a Time, which has been on the air since Oct. 2011, also chronicles the life of a bondsman as she navigates a mystical fairytale world.
Davis has not released any statement regarding the network's pass of the series.
