The Revolving Prison Doors

In California, the number of people in jail and prisons is staggering.

Many of those people are still awaiting trial and sentencing.

In Contra Costa County, alone, 85% of the jail population is unsentenced. The counties face a lot of overcrowding thanks to the governor’s realignment plan and having a high recidivism rate doesn’t make things any easier.

There could be more financially smart solutions available to help ease the strain.

Butt-Dialing Bandits Call 911

Two men are now behind bars after a butt-dial called 9-1-1 during the crime.   The suspects, Nathan Teklemariam and Carson Rinehart have since been booked into the Fresno County Jail.  Jail officials said the pair of 20 year-olds are facing charges of possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime and breaking into a vehicle.

The incident began when Rinehart's phone decided to butt-dial emergency dispatchers while he was on a mission to find drugs.  The operator decided not to hang up and instead listened for a period of time.  Rinehart and his friend discussed searching for marijuana for …
