    DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES COUNTY JAILS

    • Cells in the Men’s Central Jail are literally filled to double the capacity intended. There are 200 three-man cells each holding six men. Additionally, there are 200 two-man cells each holding four men.
    • Inmates are required three hours per week of time out of their cells. Yes, per week.
    • The Sheriff’s Department is understaffed by 1000.

    The Men’s Central Jail and the Twin Towers Complex are situated across the street from one another.

    Often, this facility is collectively referred to as the Twin Towers jail or as the Men’s Central Jail.

    In order to relieve tensions in the Men’s Central Jail, inmates are sometimes moved to the Twin Towers Jail. After court in Los Angeles County, defendants who continue to be remanded are sent to Twin Towers.

    Additionally, longer term defendants awaiting trial but subsequently released on bond are release through Mens Central Jail.

    TWIN TOWERS JAIL INFORMATION

    The Twin Towers Complex is located 450 Bauchet Street; Los Angeles, CA 90012.

    The Twin Towers jail consists of two towers, a medical services building, and the Los Angeles County Medical Center Jail Ward.

    The Twin Towers, which have been constructed in such a way to house maximum security inmates and a large portion of the county's mental and health inmates.

    The booking process can take as long as 24 hours and release may be delayed as long as 12 - 24 hours after the bail bond has been posted.

    MEN'S CENTRAL JAIL INFORMATION

    Across the street from the Twin Towers jail, at 441 Bauchet Street is Men's Central Jail. It primarily houses sentenced inmates.

    It currently houses the majority of Los Angeles County's high risk, high security inmates, and it ranks as one of the largest jails in the world.

    The capacity of the Men’s Central jail is approximately 7,000 inmates.

    OTHER LA COUNTY JAIL FACILITIES
