    MCC INFORMATION & VISITING

If someone has been arrested for a federal crime in the San Diego area they will likely be taken to the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC San Diego) to be booked and processed.

The MCC San Diego houses both male and female inmates.  This facility houses pre-trial and sentenced inmates of all security classifications.

MCC inmate visits are conducted based on the fifth digit of the inmate’s register number and are conducted on an even/odd basis.  All visits are determined based on a point system. Pre-trial inmates receive eight points per month, whereas sentenced/designated inmates receive 12 points per month.

Weekend and holiday visits count as two points.  Weekday visits count as one point.  Weekday social visits are permitted on Monday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 4:45 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.   Weekend and holiday social visits are permitted on Saturday, Sunday and Federal Holidays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Legal visits are permitted between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday.   Points are not deducted for legal visits.  Any interpreters, paralegal, law clerk, attorney or legal assistant wishing to meet with an inmate must first obtain background clearance from the Warden’s Office.

All visitors must be processed through the Front Street entrance.  No more than 30 persons are permitted in a visiting room at any given time.  Visitors are not permitted to use restroom facilities during visits.  Visitors who need to leave the visiting area to use the restroom will not be readmitted.

All persons wishing to enter the MCC will be required to pass through a metal detector, have their hand stamped and leave an identification card with the Control Center.   Corrections staff are permitted to deny entry to those who cannot be cleared by the metal detector.
