A spokesperson for the Marin County Jail said a Novato man who had been released on bail was rearrested within 24-hours.
Defendant Grant Wehr was first apprehended by authorities last weekend. The incident unfolded after police said they pulled him over on suspicion of driving while under the influence. Police said Wehr became argumentative and refused to cooperate. They then discovered the defendant was in possession of an undisclosed amount of illegal drugs. He was transported to the county jail and charged on suspicion of DUI, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Bail information for this arrest was not immediately available but jail officials confirmed the defendant had successfully hired an expert Novato bondsman to help secure his release.
Authorities said Wehr got himself into more trouble less than one day after he was set free. Witnesses at the scene of the crime said he attempted to strangle another man with a bath towel. They also said he verbally threaten to take the victim's life. He then struck the man in the face and ran from the scene of the crime. Police officials said they were able to track Wehr quickly. He was taken into custody just a few blocks from where the incident took place.
Wehr was once again transported to the Marin County Jail. He remains in custody on $150,000 bail. Inmate records show he is reportedly being charged with criminal threats, committing a felony while out on bond, assault with a deadly weapon and battery. He is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
