SONOMA COUNTY JAIL SYSTEM INFORMATION
The County has two jail facilities, respectively. The first is the Main Adult Detention Facility (MADF), also known as the Sonoma County Jail which is the main detention facility in the County. It was originally designed to hold almost 500 inmates. However, the facility quickly reached it’s housing capacity. An expansion was opened in 1997 to provide an additional 290 beds. The facility is a medium/maximum security facility, which houses both pre-trial and sentenced inmates
Additionally, The North County Detention Facility primarily holds sentenced inmates. Inmate programs are coordinated by the staff program officer which benefits both the inmates and the County. There are currently over 200 work crew inmates in a variety of work details on and off-site. For an inmate to be eligible for the work crew programs, they are classified at booking and cannot have any violence charges, history of escape histories, or disciplinary behavior problems.
After the defendant is completed being booked into the jail system, they may be released from jail on bail bond or held until arraignment if no bail is posted. Arraignment will generally take place within two business days. As an example, if the defendant was arrested on Thursday evening, they would generally be arraigned on the following Monday morning.
