    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Why are there bail bonds?

A: The reason bail bonds are used is to guarantee that the accused defendant will appear for their scheduled court date. If the accused does not appear, then the amount of the bond will be paid to the court.

Q: How does the bail bond process work?

A:  A bail bond can be purchased by anyone 18 or older, but is usually purchased by an attorney, relative, or friend. During your initial phone conversation with your bondsman, please be sure to ask if the bond company is licensed and certified. It is very important that you only enter an agreement with a licensed and backed company.

The bondsman will ask you for basic information such as the detainee’s first and last name, birthdate, address, place of arrest, the charges, bail amount, where they work, and other background information to determine the risk associated with the bail bond.

Next, paperwork will need to be filled out if the client chooses to purchase the bail bond. Bail bond documents including an application and indemnity agreement will need to be signed. All documentation can be handled through email or by fax. Clients are also welcome to meet with us in person.

After the documentation is complete, a licensed bondsman will “post” the bail bond to the jail and the defendant will be released.

The entire process should take only 1-2 hours from the time the arrest and booking procedures are complete.

Q: How much does a bail bond cost?

A: California has a set state mandate that places a 10% fee of the bail amount. If bail is set at $300,000 then the amount owed for the bond is $30,000. Please beware of bail bond fraud and of any company offering to post a bail bond for less than the state laws 10% fee.  Bail bond cost is set by California law, which regulates the fees. Companies charging less are acting illegally and have been known to take money from a client and never post the bail.

Q: What if I can’t afford the cost of the bail bond?

A: 888 Bail Bond is aware that the cost associated with a bail bond is not something that is planned for. We offer payment options and financing and accept cash  and all major credit cards.
