The Lassen County Sheriff's Department is responsible for preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes in the unincorporated areas of Lassen County. Deputies serve all State mandated writs, warrants, and other notices issued by the court.

The Sheriff has to be present at all Superior and Municipal Courts in the County and is responsible for the transportation and attendance of anyone arrested to the Court for judicial process.

Sheriff’s Deputies provide protection of life and property for county residents. The Sheriff/ Coroner inquire into and determine the circumstances, manner and cause of death of anyone within certain legally described situations.

When someone is arrested in Lassen County, they will be taken to the Lassen County Jail for booking and processing. This could take several hours and will include fingerprinting, mug shots, a background check and warrant search. Once booking is complete, we will be able to post a bond for their release. We can post bail to the Lassen County Jail 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Susanville is the only incorporated city in Lassen County. It has a population of nearly 18,000 residents. It is the home of the High Desert State Prison, California and the California Correctional Center. The Susanville Police Department provides law enforcement services to the community. There are nine patrol officers, a narcotics officer, a detective, three sergeants, one captain and a chief of police within the department as well as two civilian personnel, a community service officer and an administrative assistant.
