A four-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department shot a man in North Park the night of November 17 after the man had been firing shots in the street, the North County Times reported.

Man booked in San Diego Central Jail for reportedly beating elderly couple

A man is being held at San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of beating an elderly couple behind a strip mall, CW affiliate XETV reported. Wyatt Kirk Bradley, who is currently on probation, was booked into the jail after allegedly attacking a 63-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife, knocking them to the ground, taking the keys to their truck and attempting to steal the vehicle before running away. Grant to help San Diego law enforcement combat DUIs

Thanks to a new traffic safety grant, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and Police Department will hopefully be able to help prevent deaths and injuries caused by DUI-related vehicle accidents. The $372,000 anti-DUI grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety in San Diego will be used to enhance law enforcement measures that keep drunk drivers off the road, Scoop San Diego reported.

Overcrowding leads to some offenders avoiding jail time

Nearly 500 offenders in California have remained out of prison or county jails, despite being rearrested during the last year since the state's realignment program took effect, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. An 18-year-old woman was arrested by the San Diego Police Department on October 31 after taking part in what news sources are calling a "crime spree" that included carjacking.

Officers with the San Diego Police Department arrested two people October 28 in separate stabbing incidents. The first arrest was of a 36-year-old man suspected of stabbing a cab driver in the shoulder with a kitchen knife,  ABC affiliate KGTV reported. More than 40 reportedly violate parole, probation in northern San Diego County

During a recent drug and compliance sweep in northern San Diego County, law enforcement officials arrested at least 43 people who  allegedly violated terms of their probation, San Diego 6 News reported.

"Operation Tip the Scale" was carried out by nearly 250 police officers, sheriff deputies and treatment professionals on October 24. They checked on 160 people who were on probation or parole in the Vista and Oceanside areas of the county, the majority of  whom had been charged with drug-related offenses.

The trial for a man charged with conducting numerous armed robberies in San Diego County will begin December 12, CNS News reported. Elvin Vincent Foster, also known as the "Be Cool Bandit," faces 10 robbery charges and a maximum sentence of 35 years and eight months in prison.

The morning of October 27, local authorities found a suspicious package outside the San Diego Central Jail in downtown San Diego.

A deputy of the San Diego Sheriff's Department found the package leaning on the entrance gate of the jail, located at 1173 Front Street, the article stated.
