Over the past few months, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca has been making steps toward improving the county jail and law enforcement system. According to NBC Los Angeles, Baca would like to renovate the entirety of the city's Men's Central Jail and make it an education-based incarceration facility.

Two Orange County, California, adults were recently arrested for allegedly trafficking a 14-year-old girl. According to The Los Angeles Times, 33-year-old Chuncey Garcia and 27-year-old Cierra Robinson were recently charged with felony counts of human trafficking of a minor, pandering a minor under the age of 16 as well as several other charges. The duo took the girl, a runaway who had been reported missing by her family, and allegedly forced her to walk known streets as a prostitute. Garcia is also suspected of posting photographs of the young girl online and setting daily quotas for her to meet. …

The Los Angeles Police Department is currently searching for two men suspected of kidnapping a 10-year-old girl from her home and holding her hostage for about 12 hours. According to The Associated Press, investigators are trying to determine how the young girl ended up with cuts and bruises on her face and body. The child told investigators that after removing her from her home, the two strangers took her to various locations before dropping her off at a nearby hospital.

Prosecutors recently pressed charges against one of convicted killer Charles Manson's followers after the man allegedly attempted to smuggle a cell phone into prison to give to Manson. According to the Los Angeles Times, 63-year-old Craig Carlisle Hammond was charged with possession of an illegal communication device. Hammond goes by the name Gray Wolf, which was given to him by Manson during one of his many visits to the former cult leader.

Los Angeles police evacuated the Beverly Center mall on March 24 after a man informed officers that a mysterious package had been placed in the back of his vehicle. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Los Angeles police officer Norma Eisenman of the Media Relations office, said the package was discovered around 1:30 p.m., and the mall wasn't considered safe until about 4:15 p.m. after the LAPD Bomb Squad officials investigated the package and later detonated it.
