A 21 year-old Virginia man was arrested after breaking into a Chesapeake home.

Authorities say they were tipped off as to the home invasion after suspect Mark Fulk called 9-1-1 on himself.

Investigators say the man was practically naked when he broke into the residence.  The homeowners said he was clad in a small towel.

Fulk hopped on the offensive when he was discovered.  He dropped his towel and reached for a kitchen knife.

He threatened to kill the couple.  Jim and Helen Hardee said they were concerned for their lives.

At some point during the altercation, Fulk requested to (more…)

Defendant Betina Young has been ordered to serve just fifteen days in jail for issuing driver's licenses and identification cards to people who have entered the country illegally.

The sentence will be served three days at a time over the course of the next five years.

Those three days, according to Ohio Judge Michael Holbrook, will take place over the Christmas holiday.

It Is Illegal to Wear a Zoot Suit on Los Angeles Streets

When we hear the term “Zoot Suit,” we might flash to the music of “Cherry Poppin’ Daddies” from the 90s.
You may not know that song was based on a real 1943 Los Angeles riot. Yes, only in Los Angeles, right?
Yes, sailors and marines duked it out with the minorities who shunned war-time laws against the making and wearing of the extravagant suits. The long jacket featured overly-padded shoulders and the pants that were severely tapered down to the ankle.

This look was the height of fashion during the rise of the jazz era in the 1940s and was favored by …

Pitchess Detention Center Could Get Womens’ Facility

The LA County Board of Supervisors has confirmed they are considering a plan that would construct a women's village at the Pitchess Detention Center.

The official proposal was submitted earlier this week by an LA-based construction management company.  The woman's village is just one-part of a multi-prong solution to replacing the Men's Central Jail.  That replacement of that facility has long been on the county's chopping block.

Proponents of the demolition reportedly say the facility is very old, outdated and too expensive to run.  They have been advocating for a plan that involves tearing it down and constructing upgraded facilities. The …

LA Men’s Central Jail To Be Demolished

The LA County Board of Supervisors has come to an agreement with regard to the demolition of Men's Central Jail.  They have not set a firm timeline that outlines any of the specifics.

One thing is for certain.  More information is needed.  A consultant has been hired to determine whether the current inmate population can be safely reduced.  If there are not any viable alternatives to incarceration a replacement jail will need to be built.

This could cost taxpayers millions. The LA County Sheriff's Department estimates the price tag could span upward of $1.67 billion.  The supervisors said they need to …

Hunger Strikes At California Prisons Begin To Wane

A spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections has confirmed that the number of prisoners that are participating in the recent hunger strike has waned.

More than 12,400 inmates initially signed on.  Prison officials say the call to action originated from within solitary confinement walls at the Pelican Bay State Prison.  Those detainees wanted to voice opposition over state law allowing them to be held in solitary confinement for an indefinite period of time.

The strike was organized in hopes of inciting change.  A second request related to their ability to speak with family members.  These inmates have demanded (more…)

Officer Saves Pair From Burning Home

A Florida-based police officer has been honored for saving lives.  The 25 year-old public servant went above and beyond the call of duty, according to local firefighters, when he helped rescue people from a burning home.

This is why the Professional Firefighters Association chose to honor Jacksonville police officer James Lozano with a special award.

The incident took place in mid-June.  It was during that time that Lozano responded to a call about a structure fire on Rusk Street.  The officer was among the first to arrive on the scene.

A Spanish-speaking couple was outside of the burning home.  They were frantically …
