BARSTOW SHERIFF STATION, JAIL AND SUBSTATION

The Barstow Sheriff's Station was established in 1890, making it one of the oldest Sheriff's Stations in the county. Its jurisdiction encompasses over 10,000 square miles, just over half of the total square miles of the County. Deputy Sheriffs who are assigned to the Barstow Station patrol the communities of Baker, Daggett, Hinkley, Lenwood, Ludlow, Newberry Springs, Sandy Valley, Yermo, Red Mountain, and Trona.

Because they are so different, these communities create a challenge requiring different types of patrol methods. Because of the large expanse deputies assist and are assisted by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Police Department, and the Bureau of Land Management Rangers.

Within the town of Baker, the Baker Substation is a satellite substation to the Barstow Station and is approximately 60 miles north of Barstow on Interstate 15. Since it is located on Interstate 15 and is frequently used by travelers as a rest stop.

Located in the town of Trona in the Searles Valley, the Trona Substationis also a satellite substation to the Barstow Station. Deputies often assist tourists and visitors from other countries who are in the area. It is also on the route from Death Valley. This area is also home to the famous Trona Pinnacles where many movies have been filmed.

Those who've been arrested in the Barstow area will likely first be transported to the Barstow Sheriff Station on East Mt. View. While there they will be booked and processed into the system. Some defendants will remain there to await their arraignment.

If they are not bailed out or otherwise released, some defendants may be transferred to the West Valley Detention Center on Etiwanda Ave. If they are transferred to this larger facility, their release time could increase dramatically. This is why we always recommend posting bail for someone while they are still at the smaller jail facilities for a much faster release time.
