BOOKING AND RELEASE PROCESS

When someone is arrested in El Segundo they will typically be transported by the El Segundo Police Department to jail for booking. The El Segundo jail facility can hold approximately 18 inmates at a time.

The jailer's booking process includes fingerprinting, removing and tagging personal property and assigning jail cells according to the prisoner classification system. He or she will prepare booking and charge forms and oversee any inmate visitations.

It is important to understand that bail cannot be posted until the booking process is complete which may take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. However, we can get the process started on our end immediately.

Bail bond policies and procedures for getting out of jail once a bond has been posted with the jailer vary among jails.

After the bail bond is processed at the El Segundo jail, a detainee can usually be released in a few short hours.

We understand that when someone you care about is in jail, you would like to have them released as soon as possible. Jail staff cannot tell us in advance exactly when the inmate will be released, but once released, the defendant will have access to a phone.

A bail bond in California typically costs 10% which is the mandated law. This is a non-refundable percentage of the total amount of the bail. For example, should the bail amount be $10,000, your portion will cost $1,000.
