DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Serving San Joaquin County (SJC) since 1849, the SJC Sheriff Department is dedicated to delivering quality service through the creation of partnerships with the people it serves. The Department is responsible for the San Joaquin County Jail.

Enforcement Patrol Services are provided by 124 uniformed deputies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by 8 patrol teams with 4 teams on duty each day. The San Joaquin County is divided into 8 geographical areas that are continuously patrolled by the Sheriff Department.

The Sheriff holds an elective 4-year term, and is voted in by the citizens of the county. The Sheriff may be voted in for additional terms. All members of the department carry out their duties and responsibilities in such a manner as to afford dignity, respect and compassion to every individual with whom they come into contact.

The Neighborhood Watch program is based on crime prevention that uses citizens, in cooperation with law enforcement, to reduce crime in their communities. By neighbors getting to know each other, watching out for one another, and working together to build a program of mutual assistance.

Neighborhood Watch is an effective way of reducing residential burglaries.  If you are interested in being a part of this program please contact the Sheriff’s Office Neighborhood Watch Coordinator at (209) 468-4796.

The Safe Neighborhood Team is another initiative that the SJC Sheriff Department employs. Staffed by one sergeant and 3 deputies, their mission is to assist patrol beat officers with the most difficult neighborhood situations that require long police actions. Their primary goal is to provide a safe neighborhood for everyone in the community.
