If a student is arrested on or near the campus, they may be held temporarily at the CSUC Police Station. They will then be taken to the Butte County Jail to be booked into the system. CAL STATE CHICO SAFETY
The California State University campus in Chico is a school that is filled with history. It first started out as the Northern Branch of the State Normal School which was dedicated to instructing and training teachers back in 1889.
The college grew over the years, changing its name to Chico State Teachers College. In 1972 the campus became known as California State University, Chico and today is commonly known as Chico State.
The CSU Chico Campus Police Department works to maintain a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors by providing professional law enforcement services.
Despite the scenic backdrop that surrounds Chico State, the area is not totally immune from criminal activity. The Department offers several crime prevention programs and services to aid students and staff in reducing the likelihood of being victimized, such as Community Service Connection, Freshman Safe Start, and R.A.D. Defense Classes.
The CSU Chico Campus also participates in the Safe Rides Program which provides a safe ride home from downtown drinking establishments for students. It gives students a safe alternative instead of choosing to ride home with someone who has been drinking, as well as giving rides to those who feel they've overindulged.
